Jubilee Youth Statement
Jubilee Youth exists to glorify God by helping make disciples of 6th-12th graders in our church and community. Our aim is to train up our youth in the way they should go, so that when they are old they will not depart from it (Prov 22:6). Leaders support parents in discipling their children by teaching, playing games, sharing dinner, encouraging fellowship in small groups, and worshiping together on Wednesday nights. We also teach a Sunday school class on Sunday mornings.
We provide a context for the youth of Jubilee to join the church’s mission in discipleship by Glorifying God together, Growing together under the instruction of his Word, and Going back into the places where God has Sovereignly placed us so as to spread the gospel to the world. We aim to create a culture where we love our neighbors as ourselves (Gal 5:14). Our Respect, Reform, Rejoice motto expands the principle of Galatians 5:14 to the context of Jubilee Youth:
Respect: We respect each other by being quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry (Jam 1:19) as we discuss thoughts and ideas in the youth context.
Reform: We actively look for ways God is calling us to become more like Christ. We understand that sanctification is a life-long process of becoming more holy through the work of the Spirit (Phil 2:12–13).
Rejoice: We aim to rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thess 5:16–19) by noticing the ways God is working in our youth group and encouraging each other with life-giving, uplifting words.
Wednesday Nights:
On a typical week, we meet at Jubilee Community Church Wednesdays from 6pm–8pm. We start by sharing a meal together, as meals signify covenant fellowship and provide an intimate context for relationship building and discipleship (Acts 2:46). We then play a game, seeking to delight in the good gifts God has given, which includes creating and enjoying games. Games can also teach us life lessons that can be applied to other areas of life (Zech 8:5). After our game, we move into a time of teaching by listening to a lecture from one of the youth leaders or hearing a testimony from a church member. Sitting under the teaching of God’s Word is an imperative for believers. It is our primary means of hearing God’s voice and learning how to live our lives (Acts 2:42). Following our teaching time, we break up into grade and gender specific small groups to discuss the lesson, build relationships with each other, and pray for one another (Heb 10:24-25). We end our night by worshiping the Lord in song, as believers are called to sing praises to the Lord with the breath he has given us (Eph 5:19).
Sunday Mornings:
On Sunday mornings during the school year, we offer a bible study for 6th-12th grade students from 8:30am-9:30am. Students are encouraged to read and study the passage of scripture for the upcoming Sunday in preparation for our class time discussion. We are currently studying the book of Proverbs, learning how to grow in the fear of the Lord, which is the way of wisdom.
